Fascias, soffits and guttering across Hull, Scunthorpe and Lincoln

Fascias, soffits and guttering in Hull, Scunthorpe and Lincoln, carried out by our own directly employed roofers. Roofline is the part of the roof you actually look at from the street, and the part that quietly protects the rafter feet. Rotten timber behind a painted fascia lets water into the wall plate and the ends of the rafters, which is a far more expensive problem than the boards. We replace the lot rather than cap over it, so you can see what is underneath.

What our fascias, soffits and guttering work covers

  • Full replacement fasciaOld timber removed, rafter feet inspected, new full replacement uPVC fascia fixed to sound timber.
  • Soffits and box endsVented or solid soffit boards, with box ends and corners formed properly rather than filled.
  • Guttering and downpipesHalf round, square line or deep flow guttering sized for the roof area, with downpipes running to the right place.
  • Bargeboards and claddingVerge bargeboards and gable cladding in matching colour and finish.
  • Dry vergeMechanically fixed dry verge fitted at the same time where the gable mortar has failed.
  • Colour matchingWhite, black, anthracite grey, rosewood and golden oak, matched to your windows and doors.

Signs you need fascias, soffits and guttering work

  • Paint flaking off timber fascias, or bare grey wood showing through
  • Gutters overflowing at the same spot every time it rains hard
  • Sagging gutter runs or joints dripping onto the path below
  • Green staining down the wall beneath a gutter joint or downpipe
  • Soffits with holes where birds or squirrels have got into the roof space
  • Capped over fascias, where uPVC was screwed onto rotten timber rather than replacing it

Capping over versus full replacement

Capping is when a thin uPVC board is fixed over the existing timber fascia. It looks the same on day one and costs less, and if the timber behind it is sound it can be a legitimate job. The problem is that most people are replacing their roofline precisely because the timber is not sound, and capping seals wet, rotting wood behind a plastic board where nobody can see it.

Full replacement takes the old timber off, exposes the rafter feet and wall plate, and lets us tell you the truth about what is there. If a rafter foot has gone we can splice it while the roofline is open. That is the difference worth paying for, and it is why our quotes say full replacement rather than just new fascias.

Worth knowing. Where the gutter is overflowing because the roof is shedding water faster than the gutter can carry it, we will size the new run for the roof rather than replacing like for like.

What affects the price of fascias, soffits and guttering

We will not put a figure on this page, because a roof price given without seeing the roof is a guess. These are the things that actually move the number:

  • The length of roofline in metres, and how many corners and box ends there are
  • Bungalow, two storey or three storey, and the access each needs
  • Whether the timber behind is sound or needs repair once it is off
  • Guttering profile and whether the roof needs a deeper flow section
  • Colour and finish, since woodgrain foils cost more than white
  • Whether dry verge or gable cladding is being fitted at the same time

The survey and the written quote are free, and the quote is itemised so you can compare it properly against anyone else's.

FAQs

Questions about fascias, soffits and guttering

Do I need scaffold for fascias and guttering?

On a bungalow often not, on a two storey house usually yes, and on anything with a difficult approach or a conservatory below, definitely. We include the access method in the quote rather than deciding on the day.

How long does a full roofline take?

A typical semi is one to two days, a detached house two to three. If the timber behind needs repair we will tell you and it may add a day.

Can you match anthracite grey windows?

Yes. Anthracite is one of the most requested finishes at the moment and we can match fascia, soffit, guttering and dry verge to it, including the downpipes.

Will you fit gutter guards?

We can, but we will be straight with you about them. On roofs under trees they save clearing out, on other roofs they mostly add something else to maintain.

Is the roofline covered by the guarantee?

Yes, our roofing workmanship guarantee covers roofline installations for 10 years, on top of the manufacturer's cover on the boards and rainwater goods.
