Storm damage across Hull, Scunthorpe and Lincoln

Storm damage in Hull, Scunthorpe and Lincoln, carried out by our own directly employed roofers. After a storm the priority is stopping more water getting in, not paperwork. We make the roof safe first, photograph everything while it is still evidence, then put together the scope your insurer needs. The permanent repair happens once the claim is agreed, and we deal with the detail so you are not stuck translating between a loss adjuster and a roofer.

What our storm damage roof repairs work covers

  • Emergency make safeLoose and dangerous material removed, the roof sheeted or temporarily weatherproofed so the house stops taking water.
  • Photographic evidenceDamage photographed at roof level, dated, with wide shots and detail shots, which is what insurers ask for and what most claims fall down on.
  • Scope and costingsA written scope of the permanent repair, itemised, in the format insurers and loss adjusters expect.
  • Permanent repairsTiles, ridge, verge, flashings, valleys and roofline reinstated once cover is confirmed.
  • Uninsured workIf the claim only covers part of it, we price the rest separately so you can see exactly what is what.
  • Fences, roofline and outbuildingsStorm damage rarely stops at the main roof, so we quote the garage, the porch and the roofline in the same visit.

Signs you need storm damage roof repairs work

  • Tiles or slates on the lawn, the drive or in the gutter after high wind
  • Ridge tiles moved, lifted or missing along the top of the roof
  • Lead flashing peeled back from a chimney or abutment
  • Guttering pulled away from the fascia or a downpipe hanging loose
  • Water coming in during the storm that has not stopped since
  • A neighbour's tree or a fence panel that has hit the roof on the way past

What insurers actually want to see

Storm claims get refused far more often than people expect, and usually for one of two reasons. Either there is no evidence tying the damage to a specific weather event, or the roof was already in poor condition and the insurer treats the damage as wear and tear.

You cannot do much about the second after the fact, but the first is simply a matter of photographing properly and promptly. Dated images at roof level showing both the damage and its context, a written scope, and a clear description of what failed will carry a claim a long way. We put that pack together as a matter of course, whether or not you end up claiming.

Worth knowing. We will not tell you a claim is guaranteed, because that is your insurer's decision. What we will do is give you the evidence and the scope in the form they ask for.

What affects the price of storm damage roof repairs

We will not put a figure on this page, because a roof price given without seeing the roof is a guess. These are the things that actually move the number:

  • Whether an emergency make safe is needed before anything else
  • The extent of the damage and how much of the roof it covers
  • Access, which after storm damage often has to go up faster than a standard scaffold booking
  • Whether the claim covers the full permanent repair or only part of it
  • Whether pre existing wear is uncovered while the repair is carried out

The survey and the written quote are free, and the quote is itemised so you can compare it properly against anyone else's.

FAQs

Questions about storm damage roof repairs

Should I call my insurer or a roofer first?

Get the roof made safe first, and photograph it. Then call the insurer. A roof that keeps letting water in while you wait for a claim decision does more damage, and insurers expect you to mitigate.

Do you deal directly with insurers?

We provide the photographic evidence, the written scope and the costings, and we will talk to a loss adjuster about the technical detail. The claim itself stays between you and your insurer, which is where it should be.

Is storm damage covered on a house policy?

Usually yes for sudden storm damage, usually not for gradual wear and tear. The line between the two is why photographs and a proper scope matter so much.

How fast can you make a roof safe?

Ring the office for your area and we will tell you honestly when we can be there. After a named storm every roofer in the region is fielding calls, and we would rather give you a real time than a flattering one.

Will you tell me if it is not worth claiming?

Yes. If the repair sits close to or below your excess we will say so, and price it as a straight job instead.
